First International School on Biomolecular and Biocellular Computing (ISBBC'11)
Osuna, 5-7 September 2011
Biomolecular and Biocellular Computing is a computational paradigm
inspired by Biology. It belongs to the general framework known as
Natural Computing. Its target is the change of physical media of
computation, from electronic hardware based on silicon (silicon chips)
to biochemical media based on carbon.
The First International School on Biomolecular and Biocellular Computing
is an activity of the Spanish Network on Biomolecular and Biocellular
Computing (REDBIOCOM), supported by the
Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation under the Complementary
Action TIN2008-04487-E/TIN and the Junta de Andalucía under the Excellence Project P08-TIC-04200.
The School will take place at the Escuela Universitaria de Osuna,
(http://www.euosuna.es) Osuna, Seville, Spain, from Monday, September
5 to Wednesday, September 7, 2011.
This School intends to provide an opportunity for young researchers
and students (namely, Master students, PhD students and Postdocs) in
Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
interested in Natural Computing, Systems Biology, Synthetic Biology
and bio-technological applications.
The lectures that will be given at the School will cover recent developments on the
following topics, each of them introduced by an internationally
recognised invited speaker:
- Membrane Computing
Invited speaker: Prof. Dr. Gheorghe Paun. Corresponding Member of The Romanian Academy (1997) and Member of Academia Europaea (2006)
- Networks of Bio-inspired Processors
Invited speaker: Dr. José M. Sempere. Department of Information Systems and Computation (Universitat Politécnica de Valéncia)
- DNA Computing and Synthetic Biology
Invited speaker: Prof. Dr. Andrés Moya. Unidad Mixta de Investigación en Genómica y Salud (Centro Superior de Investigación en Salud Pública, CSISP) and Instituto Cavanilles de Biodiversidad y Biología Evolutiva (Universitat de Valéncia)
Participants will also have an opportunity to show some of their on-going work, (Ph.D. projects, work-in-progress reports, ...) by giving a presentation in a session on Monday, September 5. If you are interested, please, write to Miguel A. Gutiérrez (magutier@us.es) before Monday, 4 July, 2011.
Participants will also have an opportunity to ask for a grant which covers partially or totally the costs of attending to the School. The application should be sent to Ana Ruíz (anarumez@us.es) before Monday, 4 July, 2011.
